To her schoolmates, Nellie is a nerd. Whilst they are into basketball, gossip and boys, she is a high achiever with an interest in astronomy, science and the arts. What they don’t know is that Nellie has a crush on Prince Edouard of Luxemburg. When she discovers that the winners of the school basketball tournament get to travel abroad and play at the Prince’s championships, she knows that she has only a short amount of time to transform herself into a sports star.
Enter new boy, Max Minsky. He’s far too cool for Nellie but in return for academic help and money, he is prepared to share the secrets behind his sporting prowess. Her parents think she’s working towards her Bat Mitzvah but her thoughts are wrapped up in a fairytale world full of princes and happy endings. Both smart and funny, Max Minsky and Me sympathetically sends up how quickly our priorities change when we are young and naïve as well as presenting us in Nellie with a motivated individual who will do whatever it takes to achieve her life goals.
