YSL – Jules
Short movie – France
Production year: 2009
Movie length: 8 minutes
Movie description:
Yves St. Laurent creative director Stefano Pilati preceded his small spring 2010 men’s show with a short film in Paris yesterday. He’s shown menswear in this format for seasons now. While many fashion-film presentations like this contain merely artsy montages seemingly designed more to freak out audiences than show clothes, this one comes with narrative. Better yet, the star of this film is Jules, the adorable 11-year-old son of its director and writer Samuel Benchetrit. He finds a key to a hotel room, intrudes, tries on clothes, reads a love letter, watches porn, writes on the mirror in ketchup, all with the most fabulous man bag and blazer any school-boy has ever known.
Like every season, YSL have brought out a film to present their men’s collection. In previous seasons their films were more conceptual, and complicated at times. But this spring summer 2010 they bring us a film directed by Samuel Benchetrit, who casts his 11-year-old son Jules as the charismatic main character.
A very stylish boy finds the key to a hotel room. When he gets inside the room he discovers the world of adults, reading literary classics, looking at pornography and wearing some of the pieces from the spring summer 2010 collection. Take a look at the video...
