Heintje’s father, Klaus Helwig is a bank assistant and wants to emigrate from Germany to Canada. His wife died when Heintje was born. His father-in-law, the rich Mr. Berthold was against his marriage and until today, has hindered the career of Klaus.
25,000 Marks have been stolen from the bank and the junior-boss suspects Klaus did it so he goes to jail. Heintje, now alone, is sure his father is not guilty and meets Renate Arens, a young lawyer. She confronts the grandfather with the law, meaning he has to put up his grandson in his house. The old man, first against the boy, changes himself very quick and begins to appreciate the boy. They do so many things together that they even begin to love each other. Heintje discovers, after a discussion that his grandpa had with the junior-boss of the bank, that this man is the real culprit that stole the money. When his grandpa doesn’t want to hear about that, he leaves and follows the man alone to Nizza, France. There he finds him on a boat but is detected and tied up. His grandfather, finally realizing, that he not only loves the boy, but also that he was unfair to Heintje’s father, follows him to Nizza. There the criminal junior-boss wants to get rid of the boy by drowning him. Will Heintje be able to thwart his plans, free his father and reconcile his dad and grandpa?
