13-year-old Carlos lives in the Barrio – a Nicaraguan shantytown. His greatest wish is to become a »coplero«, the poet and lyricist in a Gigantona group. In the face of all resistance, Carlos founds his own Gigantona group, which makes its way to an old poet, in the attempt to get a foreign stipend for their work. As it becomes clear that there is no chance of a stipend Carlos is faced with his greatest challenge – responsibility.
13-year-old Carlos lives in the Barrio, a shantytown on the edge of León, in Nicaragua. He makes money as a member of a Gigantona group of monster puppets, performing for tourists. In these traditional groups children dance, play theatre and recite poems. Carlos would like to be the »coplero«, the one reciting the poems, so he founds his own Gigantona group in which he’s the coplero, but the young people don’t leave much time for art and Carlos is unhappy with the results. In order to ensure the existence of his group, he tries to get a foreign stipend from an old poet. When this fails, his companions let him down and the group falls apart. In disappointment, Carlos escapes with Isabel, his younger sister Kenia and her hen to the beach. There he is faced with his biggest challenge – responsibility.
