Childhood comes to an abrupt end for Stefan. He moves to Berlin with his mother and sister, into the modern housing area of Marzahn. This means that the young boy must say goodbye to his friend Tasso, to his Grandmother, his village, and to the Island of Swans. Only a few hours in the car take him into a different world: surrounded by concrete and construction sites, new faces everywhere, a new school, the first new friends and his first real problems. At school an older boy known as Windjacke terrorizes his fellow pupils. Stefan finds a brutal bully behind the mask of a decent boy who pretends to be helpful. As the new boy, he cannot come to terms with the rules laid down by Windjacke. Stefan will not accept that his friend Hubert is turned into a figure of fun, and without compromising he campaigns against Windjacke.
