Υπόθεση:
»The Runway« is inspired by the true story of a South American pilot who landed his plane near Mallow, in 1983. Against all odds, the people of the town came together to build a runway to get him home and briefly caught the imagination of the nation. It is the story of Paco, a young boy without a father who adopts the pilot and convinces the town to build a runway to get him home.
Ireland 1983: Nine-year-old Paco lives in County Cork. As his mother works all the time, his father, a Spaniard, has left the family long ago and his best friend just moved to Dublin, Paco feels like he is all alone. One night the boy witnesses how a plane crashes into a field near by his house. Inside the wreckage Paco finds the pilot Ernesto unharmed, takes him home and hides him under his bed. When his mother finds out about Ernesto, Paco uses his basic Spanish to translate and convinces the villagers to help the pilot. But repairing the airplane proofs to be more complicated than any of them thought.
The plot sees young Paco running wild with his traveller best friend »Frogs«, both busy finishing off their space phone when the latter’s family is moved on in the middle of the night. Alone, watching the skies, Paco witnesses a spectacular plane crash, and is soon bringing the surviving pilot, Ernesto, home to meet his somewhat shocked single mum.
