Υπόθεση:
The story of an adult and a teenage couple during a brief summer holiday by the sea. While Nic’s parents remain trapped in a precarious mutual dependency despite repeated attempts at reconciliation, their 12-year-old son tries to come to terms with his father’s traumatizing violent outbursts in games with other children. He tries to teach Marie, who is of his age and suffers from her own relationship with her father, to feel nothing. In fact, both of them are transformed by their experience of the joys and pains of first love. A film about the first steps towards a life of one’s own.This film evokes memories of summer holidays by the beach, camping trips with the family, swimming and playing in the water. Seemingly endless days of sun, campfire dinners and biking down dusty roads – director Rolando Colla captures the mood perfectly. But »Summer Games« is not a nostalgic reverie. Instead, it is a tough, no-nonsense film about youngsters who find a common purÂpose during a few weeks of vacation time in Maremma, a little region nestled in the wild Tuscan coast. Our merry band of a half-dozen kids disappears into their own world of make-believe, invented games and derring-do, emerging at the end of every day to rejoin their families, where they are forced to reconcile the adult and child realms. Nic (Armando Condolucci) and Marie (Fiorella Campanella) are the eldest of the gang and the acknowledged leaders. Nic is a grubby, aggressive twelve-year-old from a working-class background with a chip on his shoulder, while Marie, softer and more refined, provides him with a much-needed counterbalance. Both kids have parental issues. Nic’s mom and dad are on the verge of another breakup; Marie is obsessed with learning the truth about a father she has never met.
Beach tussles are soon replaced by long days spent playing at an abandoned shack in a nearby field, where Nic and Marie lead the rest in rollicking free-for-alls. As things get more serious, they partake in games with edgier implications. At first Marie recoils from Nic’s tiresome antics, but a growing attraction builds between the two as they flirtatiously spar with each other.
