A young boy accidentally shoots his brother in a hunting accident and finds himself blamed and shunned by his family.
A tragic accident changes a family forever in this drama set in Montana. When 12-year-old Arnold accidentally kills his 17-year-old brother Eugene, Arnold’s father angrily vents his grief, his mother hides in fear, and his mean uncle gets in the way. Luckily, Arnold’s wise grandfather tries to help the shattered family adjust.
Arnold Hillerman accidentally kills his beloved brother Eugene in a hunting accident, and goes into emotional shock. His family grieves but his father Joe refuses to talk to Arnold when the boy can’t account for the fact that he didn’t report the killing immediately. The ripples of family discord widen when Arnold’s uncle Andy Jansen cheats on his pregnant wife Lu by seeing Eugene’s waitress girlfriend Amalie. Only Arnold’s Grandfather George knows how to give Arnold his »emotional space«. Feeling enormous pressure but unable to express it, Arnold runs away to Reno.
