The story seems to begin innocuously: Iris and Robert Wieland get divorced. Iris receives parental care and custody for their common child. For a weekend every two wecks, Robert, a renowned composer of screen music, is allowed to take five-year-old Sebastian, whom he is very attached to, into his house. Sebastian, Robert, and his new partner Bettina take delight in their being together – until Iris all of a sudden puts an end to her weekend visits and confronts Robert with a sinister reproach: She suspects him to have sexually abused his son.
In family court, a psychologist, who has been engaged by Iris, corroborates the contention. Since he is innocent, Robert vehemently defends himself. Iris, however, hates him because she believes him to have destroyed her life and wants him separate from his beloved child once and for all. On his part, Robert also consults a psychologist who is convinced that his colleague has prepossessed the boy and examined him of improper method. Nevertheless, Robert cannot get rid of the infamous accusation. Scandalized, old friends turn away from him. He is without concentration, depressed, and almost unabie to work. A tabloid journalist, black sheep of his trade, senses a hot story. In his everyday life, Robert is running the gauntlet. And Iris forestalls any contact between father and son.
In order to finally be able to prove Robert’s innocence, his attorney at a hearing moves for Sebas-tian’s examination by a neutral, that is, court-commissioned, psychological expert. The judge’s reaction points a way for which Robert no longer has the strength. He is about to despair...
