The protagonist of Alba is a boy weakened by a severe illness. The short cleverly combines film and animation to better portray two different but coexisting realms, fantasy and reality. In the short the fantastical adventures of a young hero are entwined with the sombre reality of the hospital wards. In order to defeat the disease, represented by a evil dragon, the boy becomes a dauntless knight in a shiny armour. Shiny like the sun rising from a misty dawn, which the knight will see after being reunited to his beloved mother. Alba is a wonderful »real« fable.
Alba is a beautiful fairytale set in the real world. Even in the darkest corners there can be a better future if only we believe and are willing to fight for it. This short cleverly combines film and animation to portray the life and dreams of a boy stricken with illness. Following his experiences we see how the sterile and sombre life in the world of a hospital explodes in to the bright colours of a brilliant world of adventure. Lost in this fantastical universe the boy confronts his fear whilst fighting for his survival and a way home.
