Sinopsis:
Jack walks through waste land, by a big lake. A black tomcat is approaching her. Jack speaks to him, offers him something to eat, gives him a stroke, and the tomcat, in return for her kindness, takes her to the gates of Tyrantberg, where he even saves her life. Thus, she gets to the first courtyard quite easily. There’s not a living soul there. She sets out for the underground. In a dark cavern, fastened with iron to the rock, is the wretched prince Pravoslaw. He is far from being so beautiful like the picture, she has grown fond of...
Jack frees the Prince from the fetters, washes him, treats his wounds, lights fire in the fire-place and takes care of him, until he gets recovered a bit.
It’s not only the body of Pravoslaw that is ill, it’s the soul, as well, and this is the most difficult task – to convince him of her love for him and of her good intentions to save him. The Prince is raving in fever, again.
Suddenly, the tomcat appears in the door. Jack offers him to eat, again. The Prince reaches out for her hardhay amulet. Jack puts it on his neck. They are happy together.
Suddently, there comes some scream from the courtyard and Jack can see the phantoms, servants of Tyrant, have thrown the black tomcat in the well. Jack rushes to drop a buckle in the well and saves the tomcat.
Unexpectedly, there start to fall rocks from everywhere. They have to flee. The Prince does not want to, he is scared. Jack convinces him to do so, the thankful tomcat shows their way from the castle and from there on to a fun-fair. It seems they find themselves in a world of most difficult examinations. They have to win over treachery, hatred and anger. The phantoms are substituted for the old Hag called Baba Jaga, the godmother Death, the headless knight Vagabond, the cruel Pussy (Ciculina), and after them the merry-go-round-keeper Claptrap play her tricks upon them. The Prince is liable to any trick, he cannot discern the truth from a lie. He always chooses the easier and more comfortable way only to find out, later on, that he was mistaken, and that Jack was right to warn him from the danger. In the end, it is up to Jack to wrest him from the clutches of death. They must run away and they have to jump on a running big-dipper. Everything disappears in the mist.
