Sinopsis:
Somewhere in the 18th century Great Britain, noble but penniless young boy John Mohune is sent by his dying mother to Moonfleet, to put himself under the protection of a certain Jeremy Fox. The boy discovers that Fox is both a former lover of his mother and the leader of a gang of buccaneers. A strange friendship grows as their adventures go on.
Ten years old orphan John Mohune arrives in the Dorsetshire coastal village of Moonfleet in October, 1757, to seek out the man whom his late mother had appointed to be his guardian and whom had once been her lover. But John soon discovers that the man, Jeremy Fox is the leader of a gang of cut-throats and smugglers? a spirited adaptation of J, Meade Falkner’s 19th century novel of the same title. Not exactly faithful to the novel, but tremendously exciting and well made nonetheless. Stewart Granger, as the man who eventually gives up a fortune and his life to save the young boy he has grown to love, gives his character a great depth ? especially in the second half of the film ? while Academy Award winning nine and a half years old Jon Whiteley turns in a memorable and wonderful performance as the orphan John that is fascinating to watch. The viewpoint of the story is told through the boy’s eyes and therefore makes the film very suitable for children. Blending all the emotions of the characters together is another haunting and superb score from award winning composer, Miklos Rozsa. His main title theme, a bravura seascape, is outstanding and one of his best.
