Sinopsis:
»The Enchanted Forest« concerns Old John, an elderly hermit who lives in a hollowed-out redwood tree, the better to commune with nature. Lost in the forest, young Jackie is befriended and protected by kindly Old John. When he’s not busy confounding a group of forest-despoiling woodchoppers, Old John does his best to play matchmaker between Jackie’s widowed mother Anne and handsome doctor Steve Blaine, who likewise lives in the Enchanted Forest for health reasons.
The hermit, Old John, communicates with animals and cares for the forest. He is at odds with a forester who wants to cut down all the trees, and wants any impediments (like Old John and the boy) removed. The boy, Jackie, had been washed downstream after a train wreck in a storm. The mother, Anne, whose father owns the land, is told that the boy must be dead, but she cannot quite believe it. When she visits her father, and walks in the forest, the boy catches sight of her, and she catches a glimpse of him as well. Through a series of interactions, the mother and son are reunited, the forest is saved, and Old John is able to stay.
