Sinopsis:
When experienced outdoorsman Mike Allison takes his young children into the wilderness for a late-autumn camping trip, he suffers a fatal heart attack just as an early winter storm rolls in with unexpected force. Now alone and without supplies or direction, Lizzy and Tim must battle the frigid elements and other dangers of the wild and find their way home.
In 1932, a brother and sister travel into the wilderness on an Adirondack excursion with their father. When the father suffers a fatal heart attack, the youngsters must continue alone to reach civilization. From the best-selling novel »Winterkill« by William Judson, »Cold River« depicts the story of the two children, fourteen year old Liz Allison and her twelve year old step-brother Tim, and their harrowing struggle to survive. Calling on the skills their father had taught them, the children quickly become hopeful of reaching civilization. Then winter strikes, almost costing them their lives. They are rescued by a strange old hermit, who grants them the temporary safety of his remote cabin. Their prospects rise until soon after taking them in, the hermit mysteriously disappears. In the final scenes, they are trapped in the remote cabin by an escaped convict who presents a challenge their father had not prepared them for. Their courage and resourcefulness compel you to cheer them on and in the final moments of their quest for survival, you are left enraptured by the tale with a renewed faith in human adaptability.
