Sinopsis:
This is the story of a young Spanish boy who finds a father in sea captain, Amadeo Nazzari and a mate for his outcast mother, Yvonne Sanson. It sounds like a wish fulfillment fantasy and the villains of the piece are as Manichean as ever. Yet it works for the most part, because of the sympathetic acting and because of Matarazzo’s sense of family. It’s also more mellow than its predecessors. There are strains of light comedy present that would be unthinkable in films like »L’Intrusa« or »La Schiava del Peccato«. And indeed, after its cool reception, Matarazzo would return to comedy again. These kinds of films had run their course and »Malinconico Autunno« was one of the last attempts of a very fruitful genre.
