Sinopsis:
Red Stovall (Clint Eastwood) is a down-and-out, heavy drinking country-singer suffering from tuberculosis. When he receives an invitation to an audition at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, he decided to go. Since he can’t drive a car and needs someone to make sure he gets there, he pursuades his sister Emmy to let her 14 year old son, Whit, accompany him. Along for the ride comes granddad, who is on his way to Tulsa, where he wants to spend the remaining days of his life.
