Going to School with Father on My Back
Movie description:
Seven year old Xi-wa lives in a poor mountain village in Mainland China with his father and elder sister. His father could not afford schooling for both children. Against his best wishes, he marries out his daughter so he would have the money to put his son through school. As Xi-wa grows up, he becomes very smart, and decides to go to college to become a teacher. His father, now frail, falls one day and becomes paralyzed. While caring for his father, he receives acceptance to college. Now Xi-wa must make the toughest decision of his life.

A father who has placed his hope for future generations on the shoulders of his bright young son attempts to help the young boy straighten out his priorities in this true story of family sacrifice and a father’s love. A widowed father lacking the funds to finance an education for both of his children sends his son to school while his daughter toils in the family fields. When the young boy receives top honours in a national Olympic chemistry competition, the choice he must make between academia and family devotion threatens to tear the already troubled family even further apart.
