Movie description:
Nature is a dominant protagonist in this evocative slice-of-life drama, and human nature, especially that of a young, five-year-old boy is the star. As little Iantsis (Indars Lacis) responds to and observes the world around him, the seasons change from winter through spring to summer. Blanketed in white snow, an old farmhouse huddles against the cold as one window frames the face of Iantsis, watching the black-and-white world outside. Inside, the warm hearth and family busyness fill the home with security – even the cat doses by the fire. Fun-loving, serious, and poetic, this story moves from the bleak winter through the birth of a sibling for Iantsis, and into the celebrations of the summer equinox. At the same time, some of the harsh conditions of Iantsis’ family’s life begin to emerge – they are nomadic workers and the farmhouse belongs to someone else.
