Movie description:
Intense, brutal portrait of life in a Turkish prison. Several stories are here told, but the major focus is on the kids’ cellblock: an unsanitary environment where sadistic guards constantly beat boys. Fourteen year old Shaban is in the lead, finds himself in a dilemma once one of the guards forces him into sex. His peers want him to tell the warden, hoping the man will be punished, but Shaban fears the ramifications of doing so. Will he summon the courage, and, if so, what might it even accomplish but more pain? Bleak and depressing; comparable to films like Sleepers and Lessons At The End of Spring. Director Yilmaz Guney actually spent time in and escaped from a Turkish prison. Filmed in France.
