Part 1: 1998 – Lucas and Saïd – For the Eternity
We find Lucas young adult, but with an enormous problem. In a song he had composed, he had denounced the massacre of children by terrorists. Those condemned him to death (of course ...) and sent Saïd (14 years), a boy of their organization, to execute Lucas. But when Lucas and Saïd met, they discovered each one at the other the affection that they missed. Problem: if Saïd did not carry out his mission, it is him who would be killed with all his family, what Lucas could not accept. His decision was quickly taken ...
Part 2: 1983 – Lucas and Erwan – A Child of Light
Lucas (12 years) has to keep Erwan (15 years) company, whose parents are gone away on holiday.
It goes rather badly at the beginning: Erwan defers on Lucas his spite to be put on the sidelines by his parents, and he treats Lucas like a dog, with humiliations and bullying, obliging him to live without clothes (like a dog) and to eat only bread and cheese. Lucas, understanding that Erwan is naughty because he is unhappy, takes all with smiling and indulgence, while proving that he can have some personality.
But one day, Erwan goes too far and maltreats Lucas so much, physically and morally, that Lucas spends one night between life and death. Erwan, understanding that he nearly killed the only one who had affection for him, changes completely his attitude and tries to make Lucas as happy as possible.
When Lucas returns at his place, Erwan, although he adores Lucas now, takes the painful decision to see him never again: he fears that Lucas, the Child of Light, should become like him while growing: a Child of Darkness, and that he does not want the see it ... It will be his »punishment« ...
Part 3: 2006 – Alexis – Hope in the Morning
One evening, young Alexis (15 years) is extorted money in the street, by Naïm, Brieuc and Kevin, three older boys, but thanks to his astuteness he succeeds to get out of that. Thereafter, he undertakes to put these youths on the right way again, in a very convincing way, by taking the time and the (original) means which are necessary; incidentally, in a very strong sequence, he succeeds in dissuading the best of them, Brieuc, from committing suicide ... and convinces him to sing with him in the cathedral! He is helped by his aunt Mireille with whom he lives, and by Pierre, philosopher living as a hermit. When Alexis sings »Corn Grain« in the cathedral, with an emotion hardly contained, it is because he knows that it is his story.

Der Film beruht auf wahren Begebenheiten: Lucas de Métairy hat sich 1998 zusammen mit seinem geliebten jungen Freund umgebracht. Schuld daran waren aber wohl weniger Islamisten, sondern ein Strafverfahren, in dem ihm eine lange Haftstrafe drohte. Sein enger Verwandter Paul bewahrt seitdem Lucas’ Andenken: Das gemeinsame Grab in den Bergen ist eine Gedenkstätte und in Lucas’ Haus wurde ein kleines Museum eingerichtet. Die Stiftung »Association Lucas et Saïd« setzt sich für benachteiligte Kinder und Jugendliche ein und führt einen einsamen Kampf dafür, daß sich Jugendliche sämtliche emotionalen und körperlichen Bedürfnisse auch von Erwachsenen befriedigen lassen können, ohne daß denen Strafverfolgung droht. Der Film »Teenagers« soll dazu beitragen, Lucas’ Ideen und die Stiftung bekannter zu machen.
Den Künstlernamen »Verhoeven« hat sich Paul de Métairy gegeben, weil Teile der Familie mit seinen Aktivitäten nicht einverstanden sind und um den »guten Namen« fürchten. Sie hätten über die Angelegenheit »Lucas und Saïd« lieber Gras wachsen lassen ...
