Movie description:

Paweł, a 12 year old boy living in a small town in Pomerania, prays for a miracle as his mother dies of cancer. At a loss, he decides to go on a pilgrimage to the holy shrine of the Black Madonna in the town of Częstochowa, 220 miles away. On his way, Paweł meets Andrzej, a physical education teacher for alcoholics. They discover they share a common love for sports.

For twelve-year-old Paweł, life in a blighted suburb on the Baltic holds scant promise. His father drank himself to death, his impoverished mother has terminal cancer, and his older brother Piotr is dull-witted. The boy has little to sustain him but naive optimism and a love of distance running. So when he sets out in the company of his alcoholic track coach, Andrzej, on a pilgrimage to a distant Catholic shrine, nothing less than a miracle will serve.
