Kazio’s father wants his son to become a footballer, just like his idol Kazimierz Deyna. When the falls of socialism puts a spanner in the works, the father comes up with an ingenious business idea: white socks with an aphrodisiac impact! But what about the football?
An original tale of growing-up during the fall of socialism.
Kazio was born in 1977 on the same day that Kazimierz Deyna, one of the most highly regarded football players of his generation, ensured qualification for the Poles to the 1978 World Cup by scoring directly off a corner kick in a match against Portugal. Instead of being by his wife’s side, Kazio’s father watched the match at a local bar. Even the doctors were angered at having to be in the delivery room while the Poles were playing and Deyna shot his historical goal. Deyna and his corner kick marked Kazio for ever. The boy’s father took the coincidence a little too seriously and trained Kazio to be the next Kazimierz Deyna.
