Perth, Western Australia. Shark Attacks 10-year-old boy leaving a scar that will never heal.
»The Swimmer« tells the story of Sam, a ten year-old talented swimmer who is bitten by a reef shark while on holiday with his family, and since the attack has to wait for his scar to heal to return to swimming. One day while watching a documentary about great white sharks, Sam has a vision of himself being violent to his sister’s favourite stuffed animal. The vision seems to destabilize him. Alice, Sam’s Mum, noticed her son is still afraid of the violence he experienced, but while she would like to consult a psychologist, Carl, Sam’s dad, affirms it is not necessary. Because of his scar Sam is harassed by Jay, a twelve year-old boy who always finds a way to display his bad attitude to younger kids. During a sunny Australian Sunday Sam goes to the beach with his family. He doesn’t seem looking forward to getting back into the ocean, but when Jay approaches him behaving badly, Sam realizes it’s time for him to face his fears, and he dives into the great Indian Ocean. Once out there Jay suggests they play a game and Sam feels he must confront his biggest enemy for the very last time.
