Movie description:
Jacques is of French descent, and Madiou is his West African friend. The two boys are just twelve years old and they have been friends all their lives as they grew up in Conakry, the capital of Guinea. Like their elders, they are completely unprepared for the vicious and violent reign of terror which is soon to sweep this newly independent country, terror which comes at the instigation of the country’s unbalanced new leader.
The 12-year-old white boy Jacques and black boy Madiou form a friendship despite family difficulties and social opposition. Set in 1970 Conakry, the capital city of Guinea, this film follows the racial tensions that have formed between the natives of the area and the French settlers. When the white French boys wage a war – similar to that in »War of the Buttons« – on the boys from the native school the two leaders soon challenge each other and form a bond that parents find difficult to break. But racial boundaries and the unfairness of life are not the only problems Jacques has to overcome.
