Movie description:
»Huacho« is a poignant but unsentimental look at the harsh life of the rural population in southern Chile. Following a small peasant family through its day, we are privy to the hardships they bear but also to their indomitable resilience and resourcefulness.
On a summer day four members of a Chilean peasant family struggle to adapt to the world which they live in, a world where a video game can be as precious as a litre of milk. Values are quickly changing in a new global environment. Alejandro Fernández Almendras makes obvious, by a simple effect of juxtaposition, the astounding gap that separates generations – grandparents rooted in the earth and its reality, and next generations ruled by the urban society controlled by money. First and foremost it is the monstrousness of capitalism that is indeed dismaying through small details. According to various interpretations of translation, »huacho« can have a meaning of a furrow, an orphan or a warrior. What a nice way of seizing the symbolism in this significant film.
