Movie description:
The Verbeeks are about to leave for their summer holiday, when they get a call because grandfather Bob is ill. So instead of going to France they unpack and stay at home. While mother Tine is busy either mothering her sick father at first and then hiding from him after a fight, her son Jochem is quite happy he can spend the summer with his best friend Guido, who turns out to have plans already. Jochem‘s older sister Anouk on the other hand is annoyed. She had planned to lose her virginity on the trip to France. Only little Jasmijn seems concerned about her grandpa‘s disease and his impending death.
The film »Bon Voyage« tells the story of a family with three children that are about to leave on holiday. When they discover that Granddad Bob is ill, they decide to spend the summer at home. This is a big disappointment for the mother, Tine. She struggles to accept the situation and tries to distract herself in various ways. The daughter Anouk (16) is also sad. Not just because of Granddad, but also due to the holiday. She had wanted to lose her virginity this year. But instead she goes back to work and begins to spend her time hanging out with her dope-smoking colleague Rogier (15) until she eventually decides to just do »it«.
Anouk’s little sister Jasmijn (7) is especially worried about Granddad Bob. She bombards him with questions about death. Bob is in denial. He feels fine and is not going to die. But Jasmijn persists and he is forced to answer. Son Jochem (12) is the only one who is happy to stay at home. He’s looking forward to spending the holiday with his best friend. But to Jochem’s horror, Guido has found a new best friend and their friendship appears to be over. Father Fred (45) stands on the sidelines and observes all this.
