Movie length: 92 minutes

Movie description:
The main character of »Playing for Charlie«, Tony, is a rugby player, torn between the game and supporting his family, specifically his younger brother Charlie. One could say life is a ruffian’s game and the question audiences will most definitely mull over as they watch Playing for Charlie is: Can Tony remain a gentleman? It’s not surprising that we have so many sports related films this year, since there’s definitely symbolism in the distinctions between sport, where talent is instantly recognizable and rules offer comfort, and life off the field, in which rules seem to shift constantly and talent often goes neglected and undernourished.
This is a coming of age drama that explores the delicate relationship between a young mother and her teenage son after the recent death of his father. An extraordinary teenager finds himself torn between familial duty and dreams of the future after his father dies unexpectedly and he’s forced to start caring for his mother and his infant brother. All 16-year-old Tony Hobb ever wanted was to play rugby. Now that his father is gone, Tony discovers that remaining a competitive athlete while trying to keep up his grades, working a part time job, and looking after his baby brother Charlie is more responsibility than one man – much less a struggling student – can handle. When Tony is given the opportunity to try out for the State Schoolboy’s rugby team, he finds his life beginning to change in ways that he could have never anticipated.
