Movie description:
The mother countess plots the destruction of her son’s love affair with a peasant woman at all costs in true Machiavellian style. And with the help of the greedy evil manager of her family’s quarry she succeeds. Her son the count becomes convinced that his lover is dead; the peasant woman convinced she has been betrayed by her lover; and in further treachery her baby believed dead. The boy is left orphaned at a boarding school unaware of the existence of either parent, as the parents are equally unaware of his existence. Forty-six minutes into the film we get our first glimpse of the boy Bruno, who runs away from the boarding school to the town of his birth in search of his parents. In true tragic Italian Opera style, the boy’s parentage remains the crux of this melodrama.
