Movie description:
Torn out plants, a broken window, dye in the drinking water. The mysterious attacks on Grandpa Fellinger’s old mill are getting worse and worse.
Meanwhile, although summer vacation is underway, things are not going too well for Leon and Luisa either, after having freshly moved into the small town. Luisa is given an ultimatum by her stressed-out father: Either she finds a suitable home for her overgrown kittens (who are wreaking havoc on the family’s house) or else Mister Nagel will take matters into his own hands ... And, as for Luisa’s brother, Leon: he wants more than anything else to join the »Mountain Bike Detective Club«, but its three amateur sleuths are reluctant to accept any new members.
However, they finally make Leon an offer: To become a member, he must first acquire a proper mountain bike. To finance this purchase, Leon takes on a dubious assignment from a full-helmeted stranger on a motorcycle. In return for the needed cash, he is to throw an unmarked package over the fence of Grandpa Fellinger’s mill-house. After a bit of hesitation, and despite unanswered questions, Leon agrees to carry out the mission that very same night ...
The next day at dawn, Luisa runs away from her home with her beloved kittens in a box under her arm (after they had destroyed the family telephone and caused a heavy allergic attack on her father). The girl and her pets seek shelter in Grandpa Fellinger’s shed, which turns out to be the ideal new home for the kittens – but only after they make a terrible discovery: Grandpa Fellinger’s dog is dead! Luisa finally returns home, with an invitation to visit and help her grief-stricken new friend often ...
Soon after, Leon finds out from his sister that Grandpa Fellinger’s dog had been poisoned by a package containing poisoned dogfood that had been tossed into the yard. The boy is devastated about what he has inadvertently done in his reckless greed and eagerness to belong to the club. However, he cannot bring himself to confess his wrongdoing. Yet, his bad conscience drives him to help Grandpa Fellinger with some chores alongside his sister, Luisa. They are befriended by an Italian immigrant boy from church who is also running errands for Grandpa Fellinger. Yet, Leon still keeps his horrible secret to himself.
Leon’s hope that the whole matter will soon be forgotten are shattered when the stranger on the motorcycle tries blackmailing him into doing yet another treacherous act: Burning down Grandpa Fellinger’s shed or else the whole town will soon hear the following words: »Leon Nagel, dog murderer!«
Leon now faces a big dilemma, yet with the help of the Bike Detectives – who still don’t know of his own terrible deed – he sets a plan into motion to trap the mysterious motorcyclist. However, disaster strikes again when the exciting hunt on fast mountain bikes (with high-tech walkie-talkie assistance) is at its height: At the last minute, they lose the motorcyclist after Leon has a flash-back when he sees a dog and recalls his deed. Since he subsequently refuses to explain his strange behavior to the rest of the gang, the Bike Detectives expel Leon from their club.
Leon’s path is full of suspense and obstacles, but with the help of Grandpa Fellinger, he finally takes the right steps to clear his guilt by confessing and seeking forgiveness.
Energized by the sheer joy of forgiveness, Leon manages to solve the mystery on who fully is behind the attacks at the mill. In a dramatic showdown, Leon, Luisa, Pietro and the other Bike Detectives, chase the villains right into the hands of the police ...
