Movie description:
Action opens in November of 1793, with Danton returning to Paris from his country retreat upon learning that the Committee for Public Safety, under Robespierre’s incitement, has begun a series of massive executions, The Terror. Confident in the peoples’ support, Danton clashes with his former ally, but calculating Robespierre soon rounds up Danton and his followers, tries them before a revolutionary tribunal and dipatches them to the guillotine.

This historical epic from director Andrzej Wajda examines the aftermath of the French Revolution. As the new controlling party grows more and more tyrannical, one of the Revolution’s primary leaders, Danton, dares to speak out against some of his old friends’ methods, their tendency to execute and utilize secret police. The masses support him, but will they behave as more than sheep once he is brought to trail, faces the guillotine? A thoroughly engrossing piece which, granted, really has nothing to do with kids, but since a number of you asked about it, I managed to track down a copy. Angel Sedgwick, roughly eight and appearing for no more than five minutes, has the most significant child role, is found reciting a political document both at the film’s beginning and end.
