After being abducted by a child killer and locked in a soundproof basement, a 13-year-old boy starts receiving calls on a disconnected phone from the killer’s previous victims.
Finney Blake is a shy but clever 13-year-old boy who is abducted by a sadistic killer and trapped in a soundproof basement where screaming is of no use. When a disconnected phone on the wall begins to ring, Finney discovers that he can hear the voices of the killer’s previous victims. And they are dead-set on making sure that what happened to them doesn’t happen to Finney.
North Denver, 1978. As the dreadful infamy of the stealthy child abductor known as The Grabber spreads across the city, terrorizing its residents, tight-knit siblings Finney and Gwen live in fear of two things: the masked serial killer and their abusive father. When the monstrous Grabber kidnaps yet another defenseless boy, two local detectives embark on a time-sensitive mission to shed light on the knotty child disappearance cases, trying to piece insubstantial evidence together. However, the disconnected black rotary telephone on the wall of the deranged kidnapper’s well-soundproofed basement keeps ringing. But who’s on the other end of the line?
In 1978, in Denver, the siblings Finney and Gwen Blake live with his widower alcoholic father Terrence. They miss their mother, who had psychic abilities and committed suicide. Finney is bullied at school by three mates, but his friend Robin defends him. When a child abductor known as »The Grabber« kidnaps a boy named Bruce, Gwen has a dream and mentions reference to black balloons unknown by the public. Detectives Wright and Miller come to the school to interview Gwen, but they do not believe in her statement. But when Finney is abducted by »The Grabber«, he is locked in a soundproof basement and learns that the black phone on the wall is disconnected. But out of the blue, Finney receives phone calls from the beyond.
